People came from as far away as Bishop Stortford for a VERY enjoyable evening at the fabulous Sawbridge Words bookstore, who procured their first liquor licence for the occasion. How much fun to relive my years as a Paris correspondent in such agreeable company – and to sell a few more copies of my 2007 book. Many thanks to the lovely Rowena Dunn for being host.
One question she asked me was that having compared writing Schizophrenie Francaise to having a baby, do I still told by the comparison now I have an actual baby. Surprise, surprise it’s not the same thing at all! While I get to watch my dear Gracie grow and change, this book remains frozen where it birthed.
Indeed, I haven’t really thought about it in years. But it was very nice indeed to go back to it – and even if I do say so myself, it was better than I expected it to be.
My only regret is that my dear much missed friend and translator Laurent Houssay is not here to relive the moments.
