Many, many thanks to Writers’ Centre Norwich for organising an inspirational four days writing retreat for Escalator winners. Highlights included talks by Cathy Rentzenbrink, author of The Last Act of Love, Sarah Perry, author of After Me Comes the Flood and the Serpent of Essex, a plotting and character workshop with novelist Sarah Bower, and an expose of the writing life by novelist Benjamin Johncock. I had some invaluable time with my mentor, Guy Saville, and some precious writing and thinking time. I think its called Escalator because it’s supposed to take our writing to the next level – and it really did. I’m now thinking of things that wouldn’t have occurred to me before, and – I hope – writing smarter, plotting harder, and **this was a revelation** describing more strategically. I am also on a diet after some amazing meals, enjoyed in the company of the also inspirational fellow Escalator writers.
